In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Fresh Baked White Bread—Part I, the Dough. I will be uploading Fresh Baked White Bread, Part II—Rising and Baking in my next upload. This is a great recipe for beginners. You do not have to have a stand mixer to make this bread, although it speeds up the process and makes it much easier! Here is the complete recipe: Part I—the Dough: Ingredients: ½ cup milk 3 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons salt 3 tablespoons butter 2 packages active dry yeast 1 ½ cups warm water (110 degrees F) 5 to 6 cups all-purpose flour cooking oil spray In a small pot, scald ½ cup milk; stir in 3 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, and 3 tablespoons butter. Cool to lukewarm. In mixer bowl, dissolve 2 packages dry yeast in 1 ½ cups warm water. Add lukewarm milk mixture and 4 ½ cups flour. If you have a stand mixer, attach bowl to mixer and insert dough hook. Mix on low speed for 2 minutes, until well-blended. Continuing at low speed, add remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, until dough clings to dough hook and cleans sides of bowl, about 3 minutes. Knead on low speed for 7 to 10 minutes longer, or until dough is smooth and elastic. Dough will be slightly sticky to the touch. Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease top. Part II—Rising and Baking: (to be uploaded later) Cover greased dough with plastic wrap that has been sprayed with cooking oil spray, and let rise in a warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Two excellent backyard activities are scavenger hunts and digging for buried treasure. For a simple scavenger hunt, give your kids a container and ask them to find everyday items like rocks, sticks and flowers. Kids love to hunt for things and an idea like this one can keep them busy for quite a while. Or bury some small toy treasures wrapped in foil for your kids to dig up in the sand. You'll be delighted by the amount of fun a simple activity can bring your child.

2. Try A Sport

If your kids are really involved in athletics, why not get them to teach you how to play. Kids love to feel like they can teach you something that they have learned and sports are no exception. Have them show you how to shoot a puck, shoot a basket or swing a bat.

Another great way to enjoy sports with your kids is to get involved in a new sport together. Try your hand at something you've never done before like mountain biking, rock climbing or just go out for a jog together. No matter what activity you are doing, you are doing it together which is most important.

3. DIY Summer Camp

A really fun way to enjoy time outside with your kids in the summer is to set up a mock summer camp at your home. Start by painting matching t-shirts for everyone in the family with a fun summer camp logo, name or design. Then plan your days to mimic that of a summer camp including sports activities, snacks, meals and outings. You could even finish off your family summer camp with a special camp-out in the backyard. Memories are guaranteed.

4. Plan A Getaway

If hanging around the house isn't your idea of fun, then get to work planning a family getaway. Have the kids help you plan by providing their input into what types of activities they would like to do on their holiday. You could also have the kids donate some of their toys and belongings to a family yard sale to help cover the cost of the trip.

Once you are away, be sure to go unplugged! Leave video games, iPods, and cell phones at home to keep the family experience simple and uninterrupted.

5. Get A Pool

Most kids love to splash around in a pool and spending family time together in a pool when it is hot tops the list. Most kids love to swim and it is a great way to keep them busy when they are off school in the summer. Find some great family pool games or plan a party and invite the whole extended family over.

Pizza Dough ~Makes 2 Pizzas 2 c. water Splash of Olive Oil Heat to 120* In Kitchen Aid mixer bowl put ( Use dough hook): I will use a spatula at first and mix it well. 2 C. Flour 1 tsp. Salt 2 ½ tsp Yeast Add the water, turn mixer on low: mix well,, scrapping bowl a few times. Slowly add more flour to make a ball that forms around the dough hook. Use just enough flour to make a dough that is not to sticky.. I don't measure the flour because depending on the weather =some days you will use more and other days less. About a total of 4 1/2- 5 1/2 cups of flour. Knead the dough in the mixer for 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl.. Turn the dough to grease all sides. Cover, and rise in a warm place until doubled. About 1 ½ hours. Punch down.. Place on a floured cloth, knead a few minutes. Cut dough in half. Cover and rest 20 minutes. Either roll the dough with a rolling pin or use your hands to stretch the dough out onto 2 greased pizza pans. Top with sauce,, cheese and anything else that you like. Bake 450* about 20-25 minutes or until done.
